I didn’t stay at this villa myself. I spent a few days at a neighboring one, while a friend who planned to holiday with my family booked the Aura villa. The apartment they stayed in was nice and well equipped, but the property is really two separate apartments sharing a public area, rather than a villa in the usual sense. The main problem was the staff, especially the man in charge from 17 to 19 June 2019. I understood he wasn’t the owner. His behavior was outrageously rude and spoiled part of our vacation. The property said it offered rides to nearby restaurants, as many neighboring villas do. When we asked for a ride to one just 1 km away, he made excuses, first saying we could supposedly only get there by bike, then telling us to take a taxi. That wasn’t the only example of his behavior, and he also asked for tips whenever he showed up. I could compare the service with the villa next door where I stayed, and that place and its staff were impeccable by comparison.

We ended up finding Aura Ubud because places in Ubud were nearly full. It’s a pretty, charming space, and Wayan was friendly. For the price, having a small pool, a nice bathtub, and a place that felt like our own villa was a plus. There were bugs, it wasn’t especially clean, and the location wasn’t great, as expected. If you want hotel-style service and cleanliness, this probably isn’t for you. But for a villa in the woods, I’d recommend it.

That infinity pool and terrace looking over the rice fields and palm trees made Villa Aura feel like home. Everything was clean and really lovely, especially for such an unbeatable price. We were looked after very well, with breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening. We only booked one night and regretted not staying longer. We’ll definitely come back to The Aura on our next Bali trip, and stay for more time.
