The Kalyana Ubud Resort

Tucked among the rice fields, this small resort is lovely and quiet. We had a wooden pool villa with a beautiful pool, and the room was incredibly cheap for how nice it was. It’s a little way from Ubud centre, but getting a car for the roughly 10-minute ride is easy. The restaurant food is basic, though with so much fine dining in ubud, why eat at the resort?

The pool area is nice, though every guest has to walk through it. Staff tried their best, but some seemed confused and may have been misinformed. Breakfast choices were very limited. The room didn’t get much natural light, had a strange smell for most of our stay, and offered very little luggage storage. A wire screen door on the outside would have helped, since the main door was hard to lock and had a gap. We could walk to central places, but getting there meant using an alley off a laneway, so the location wasn’t great for us. It was a good stay, just not a great one.

I loved the quiet, beautiful setting among the jungle of ubud, though it’s not the place to choose if you want to be central. For the price, I’d definitely give this place 5 stars. The service was impeccable, with everyone so lovely and accommodating. Breakfast was cooked to order, and we could ask for whatever we wanted. It was fresh and delicious. Our pool view room was spacious, including the bathroom, and had a tub. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the rest of the room was amazing. The tub plug was a terrible spring-release type, though, and the tap leaked, leaving water all over the bathroom.

We really enjoyed chatting with Gustu, Widia, and Ratna at the restaurant. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a private pool as a nice bonus. It was a perfect stay, and the rice fields beside our room gave us a lovely view.
