I didn’t stay here myself, but my clients did. I went through the property to see it for myself and also got feedback from them. The design, inside and out, was top notch, and the large pool could accommodate everyone. There’s a spacious shared area with views of the pool and nature, and every room has a view. The staff were friendly and helpful, though I’d rate their initiative 6/10. There are a lot of staircases, especially down to the lowest level where the last 2 rooms are, and there’s no wheelchair access. Some issues with the walls were scheduled for maintenance. Cleanliness was 6/10, especially outdoors.

The friendly, courteous staff were a bright spot, but my recent stay at Villa Kala in Ubud left me disappointed on several fronts. Ants were everywhere and disrupted almost every meal. We kept food sealed and surfaces clean, but they kept showing up, making it hard to eat in peace. The room doors wouldn’t close all the way, which affected our privacy and made us concerned about security. Water pressure was unreliable, and hot water was limited. Some of our group had cold showers or skipped showering altogether during the last two nights. A few of us ended up showering at a nearby spa, which cost us extra and was inconvenient. Laundry came back very damp, almost wet, and left our clothes with a musty smell. Getting to the villa was another problem. It wasn’t easy to reach, and we got stuck at least once. We nearly had to walk back late at night, which felt frustrating and potentially unsafe. The air conditioners struggled to cool the rooms, making it uncomfortable to sleep in the heat. The beds also felt more suited to children than adults, so a good night’s sleep was hard to get. My roommate and I even had a clear view of the garbage behind the property because a partition was missing. My web searches described Villa Kala as luxurious, but that really wasn’t the case. Maybe those descriptions were based on Indonesian standards, but either way, they weren’t true for us. If you’re looking for luxury, look elsewhere. Stick with the hotels. It felt more like a glorified clubhouse with running water than comfortable accommodation.

The design and decor at Villa Kala were thoughtfully done, and the whole experience was incredible. The staff were knowledgeable and courteous, and everyone we encountered seemed to care about making our stay great. They prepared delicious breakfasts for our group of 11 every morning and took care of all our needs. Great people, they really made the experience top-notch.

The villa looked huge and luxurious when we first saw it, so we expected a great stay. Instead, it felt like being stranded on a deserted island. It’s deep in a remote field, with no mobile signal and no food nearby. We tried ordering delivery, but no driver would accept, even with a 100k tip. There were bugs around the property, and my sheets had stains and needed more cleaning. In one word, the experience was subpar.
