Wisma Lovebird

I came back to Wismar LoveBird hotel this week after a disappointing stay last month, hoping to give it another chance. Nothing had improved. My Booking.com reservation changes were ignored, and calls and texts to the hotel got no reply. Reception service was practically nonexistent. A young boy eventually checked me in, but seemed to struggle with his own Indonesian language on Google Translate. I gave up trying to add one day to my stay. The room lacked even basic things. There was no toilet paper, no bathroom mirror, shampoo, bedside table, or reading light. The only mirror was by the bed, making a morning shave awkward, with repeated trips to the bathroom and no privacy. The towels were frayed and worn. It felt like they might as well have put mattresses on the floor instead of beds. Breakfast was left uncovered on a corridor table for two hours instead of being brought to the room. I found it when I woke up, and insects could get to the food. The only offering was a cold piece of chicken with rice. Tea and coffee meant walking five minutes each way to reception. The room's only power socket had pulled out of the wall, leaving wires visible, which seems dangerous if children are staying. I had paid in advance for three nights, and bookings are non-refundable, so I was stuck after the first night. I couldn't bear to stay longer. I lost £30, and there are plenty of better options in Wonosobo at a similar price. Don't trust the hotel's description of its services and facilities, many of which aren't there. The one accurate detail was the car park, which was always empty, apparently because so few guests stay. This is one of the worst hotels I've experienced across 46 countries and 40 years of travel. Booking.com should be ashamed to list it with so many facilities that don't exist.

The room was spacious and clean, and I really liked the place. The manager and staff were friendly and helpful, and the birds in their large cage make a lovely sound. I'd happily come back, though the AC in my room wasn't working, so I gave it four stars.

We had a nice view from the first-floor balcony, and the friendly staff were helpful. It's good value and not too far from the town center, making it a handy place to rest before heading to the mountain. You can also order an extra bed.

We'd planned to stay for two nights, but it was fully booked, so we only got one. The room was really nice and clean, and the place was lovely and inexpensive. I'd recommend it for families traveling to Wonosobo or Dieng.
