Grand Kangen Hotel Urip Sumoharjo Yogyakarta

There are lots of good places nearby, and the location is very convenient. We had Gudeg Wa Wa Wa on our first night, visited the massage place 50m to its right on the second, and Gudeg Bromo and Hayati are also close. The interior renovations have charm, especially in the room and around the bathroom sink. The place seems old and only partly renovated, though service was good. The AC is loud, and you can easily hear people upstairs and next door. The bed is a little hard, towels are thin, the toilet and shower are old, and they provided all the amenities except soap.

A fairly average budget hotel. I'd suggest looking elsewhere unless money is tight. It's not one of the top-rated hotels in Jogja.

I thought it was a nice hotel until I saw the live fish on the breakfast tables, and that spoiled the experience for me. Each table has a drinking glass with two fish in it. That's awful for the fish. They should be able to swim freely in a lake, and seeing them confined in a tiny, bare round container was really sad.

I picked this hotel for its location next to Cititrans, which makes it handy for an early departure or a late arrival. The staff are friendly, and the room was reasonably clean, but it needs refurbishment and a deeper clean. It's dim and dated, with not enough lighting and a broken bedside lamp that leaves the area around the bed dark. The bathroom is clean enough, though the basin area could use some work. For a hotel that calls itself four-star, the room amenities and facilities felt more like a 2.5-3-star place. I might stay again if I have another early trip or late arrival with Cititrans.
