The pool was the standout for us. It’s on the small side, but lively, and our baby loved it. We also enjoyed the koi pond and being able to feed the fish. All the restaurants served great food, especially the Chinese restaurant and El Patio, where the staff were terrific. There was even a cooking lesson for children, which our baby loved, though I think that may have been a one-off, so check with reception. The room was very clean, and housekeeping deserves a thumbs-up. They did turn-down service, which was helpful since our baby made a mess every day. Breakfast had lots of choices, and club access was a definite bonus. Honestly, for this price, it’s the best hotel.

We had a pleasant night at Melia Purosani, though I forgot to take a picture. The location is strategic, and the staff were both friendly and professional. Our connecting family room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Breakfast was okay, though I would have liked more variety.

The room change was handled quickly and without any fuss. We’d booked a city view room thinking about the Merapi view, but hadn’t considered the street noise, which kept us awake most of the night. After the first night, staff helped us move to a pool view room. The staff were attentive and friendly, the rooms spacious, and the bed comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and the pool was lovely, though most loungers were shaded at least in the afternoon. I took off a star for the location: it’s very close to Malioboro, but the main sights such as Keraton aren’t really within walking distance, especially in the heat and humidity.

The rooms were large and fairly comfortable, but felt dated, and the hotel seemed more like a three-star place. Our hairdryer didn’t work properly, the sink and bath drained slowly, and the bathroom needed maintenance and replacement. Wi-Fi was also patchy and slow at times. The location made me glad I chose the Meliá. Malioboro Street is a short walk away, and the Kraton and other major sights are nearby. Staff were excellent, as is common in Indonesia. The gym was well equipped and quiet when I used it. Breakfast had a huge range of options and was very good. I’d stay for the location, though there may be smarter alternatives in Yogyakarta.

Awan, the customer experience manager, and his team deserve my biggest thanks. Everyone at Melia went out of their way to help and make our stay special, treating guests with kindness and respect. I travel often, and the customer service here was exemplary. I’ll be back in Yogyakarta, and I already know where I’ll stay next time. We planned four nights and ended up extending to six because we loved the city and the Melia Purosani so much. It feels like a green oasis in the middle of town, close to the busy Beringharo market and JL Malioboro streets. Our spacious room looked out over the gardens around the pool. The bed was huge and very comfortable; the bathroom was good, though the shower felt a little cramped. Our room included access to the Level, where we had snacks and afternoon tea and chatted with other guests in an intimate setting while watching the sunset. Breakfast in the main restaurant came with outdoor seating overlooking the garden and Koi ponds. The food was varied and excellent, especially the Indonesian specialities, with many stations cooking dishes to order. The staff even made me eggs with hollandaise sauce when I asked.
