This was one of the worst hotels we’ve stayed in. We had booked two nights but left after one. The room was really dirty, and the towels, sheets, and “blanket” were old and stained. The place badly needs maintenance and renovation. For Yogyakarta, the price honestly wasn’t in the cheap range either. At check-in, the receptionist barely spoke English, so we used Google translator. Once we got into the room, we saw two salamanders running around. I asked the man at reception for another room, but he said they were full. It was late, and trying to find another hotel in Jakarta would have been a mess, so we asked him to get the salamanders out. He managed to remove one, but the other hid, and we couldn’t find it. We ended up sleeping with it still in the room.

The room was an okay size, but the old AC might need some attention, and I left the ceiling fan alone. There’s no tissue or phone in the room, so you have to contact staff directly at reception. The hotel is around the tourist area. It’s quite old and seems antique; photos suggest the rooms vary, with some having pretty tiled bathrooms. Mine had a basic bath and a shower where the temperature was touchy. The blanket felt rough, and the curtain made me a little paranoid: it was rather see-through from inside and didn’t cover much from side to side. I got an insanely discounted rate, but the amenities were pretty standard for what I paid. RedDoorz currently manages this old hotel.

The location was decent, the staff were friendly, and the price was affordable. But there wasn’t any tissue or tea or coffee, just mineral water. The internet was so slow I had to use my own connection.

The shower was good and the air con worked well, which was a nice surprise. They also had free bicycles to use, plus complimentary coffee and tea.
