There’s plenty of parking, and since the hotel sits off the main road, it stays away from traffic noise even though the neighborhood is lively. The small pool works for kids, while the short swimming lane gives adults a chance to stretch out. The interior looks dated and could use an update. Breakfast would also benefit from some improvements to the flavors.

Breakfast was a highlight, with plenty of tasty Indonesian and Western choices for everyone. We also had a good time at the pool, and the Wi-Fi worked pretty well. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, with good beds and AC, so we slept well after busy days. The staff were friendly, check-in was quick, and the hotel blends old Javanese style with modern comforts. Its location made it easy to get around and see the city during our study tour. Royal Darmo Hotel made the trip even better, and gave me a really memorable time. It seems like a comfortable, convenient choice for groups visiting Yogyakarta.

Rain kept us from spending more time by the pool, which I loved for its cool breeze beside the water in the middle of town. The art deco style and atmosphere really appealed to me, especially since I'm a fan of that look. The food was okay, particularly their bistik lombok ijo.

The staff were very kind, though the receptionist came across as a bit rude when I asked about an issue with my room. It was 11:20 AM, so I don't really blame him. They said someone would come fix the problem, but nobody did. I was tired and didn't bother calling reception again. The bedroom was comfortable, and the room was okay, but it wasn't among the best I've stayed in at a four-star hotel. There was no hot or cold water in the bathroom. Breakfast didn't feel four-star either, with average taste and very few options. The pool seemed to be there just for show and felt too small for the number of rooms. For a place with its popularity and rating, I found this hotel overrated. It was just okay.

Breakfast was good overall, though the flavors could be better. I appreciated how quickly and kindly the restaurant butler served us, always with good manners and a smile. In my room, the bathroom had no mirror, and the hairdryer and toiletries were incomplete, including things like hangers. The furniture finish needs better upkeep, and the cables were all over the place. The hotel is still new and needs to improve its hospitality.
