Cahir House Hotel

The €9 double Lucozade with ice at the bar was crazy. Breakfast was awful, all deep-fried and tasteless. I asked for no black pudding or mushrooms when ordering, but she didn’t listen, and the woman serving wasn’t pleasant. The rooms are old but comfortable enough. The bedroom and bathroom could have used heating, and when I tried to open the window in the morning, it nearly fell out. It’s a shame, but I suppose being the only hotel means they don’t have to make an effort.

The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to give me what I wanted and needed. I’m fussy, but they didn’t mind at all. I liked the hotel’s Christmas activities, especially the wreath-making day, and the Christmas parties were reasonably priced. The room rates are hard to beat, and it’s close to the Rock of Cashel, Clonmel and Tipperary raceway. I’d come back again.

I’d stay here again. The service was warm and attentive, and the hearty cooked breakfast really set me up for the day. The location is excellent. The bathroom was modern and clean, although the room felt a little dated and could do with a refresh.

Cahir is a lovely town, with walks by the river and castle, and the Swiss House is worth a visit. The hotel is right in the centre, so the rooms can get a bit noisy with the windows open, though that didn’t take away from its appeal. It’s a lovely place, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
