Charleville Park Hotel & Leisure Club

Kirsty really saved the day. I'd accidentally booked my room for 2027, but she, as reservations manager, sorted it out and found me a room. Without her help, I would've faced a long drive back to Dublin. The staff here put customers first, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel. The manager who looks after the restaurant is great with kids and couldn't do enough for them. Amazing staff all around.

We left dinner because the wait was so long, and people at both tables beside us were waiting too. The food was average, breakfast just okay, and reception staff weren't especially friendly, though they did the bare minimum to get things done. Pool changing facilities were being redone, so they had navy gymnasts pads stuck to the glass windows for privacy. The room was filthy. The shower looked as if it had never been cleaned, the toilet barely flushed, and it was unbearably hot. A blanket had some kind of dried liquid on it, so the room clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. The pictures don't show how bad it was. I'd never return and would tell others to avoid the place.

The beds were so uncomfortable the floor might have been better, and the room was cold. The bathroom products gave my skin a reaction. There was no room-service card for the door, and the tea bags hadn't been topped up on the second day. We were also left a dirty towel, and one white towel had brown stains even though it was put out as clean. The room was dirty throughout: hairs in the shower tray, water marks all over the shower glass, dirty tray mats and tray under the cups, and the same mess in the bathroom. I emailed the hotel photos of how bad our room alone was. I could only add 10 photos, but there were more. Dinner was terrible too. The restaurant was cold and service slow, with staff looking miserable and standing around talking while we waited to be seated. They let napkins fall and walked past them, only half-cleaned tables, and left food on the floor under the table. When we checked out, nobody was at reception.

I'd come back to the restaurant/pub for a meal or drinks with friends. It has a special atmosphere, and that's the main draw here. The staff are cheerful and happy to help, though they don't go out of their way. The hotel is well kept but not special, and I wouldn't choose it for a holiday. Nothing about the rooms stands out, though there's nothing to complain about either. One restaurant is closed, and you can see through the windows that it's being used for storage.
