Fennessy's Hotel

The bed linen was torn, the headboard broken, and mattress springs were coming through. The room was dirty, with black mold in the shower, and there was no housekeeping during our stay. We would have checked out, but there was nowhere else available in clonmel for those nights. We couldn't eat the breakfast. The food had been reheated, and milk was left out in the heat. There was also a leak in the hall, with buckets underneath and towels around them. This shouldn't be called a hotel.

We stayed for a nearby wedding and paid about half what other places in the area cost, so it was great value. This isn’t a fancy 5 star hotel, but it covered what we needed: clean, safe, quiet, and close to everything. The town shops are right outside, and there’s plenty of on-street and free parking nearby. We parked for free at the Reheen Hotel, with lots of space, then walked 10 minutes into town and to the hotel. No need to drive in. Our twin room was clean and comfortable, with a view of the street and church. It was peaceful inside thanks to considerate guests. Outside got a little lively late at night when we got back around 12:30 AM, and the narrow streets may have made voices sound louder, but it didn’t bother us and we fell asleep quickly. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and hand gel, as none were provided. Breakfast was simple and tasty: sausage, egg, bacon, DIY toast, tea or coffee, and juice. We went down at 9:30am and had the place to ourselves. The woman serving breakfast was lovely and pleasant, gave us space, and the portions were just right. I wasn’t expecting much, but I liked it and would stay again.

The rooms are a little dated, but the value is excellent and a decent cooked breakfast is included. The lobby, stairs, and dining room are nicely decorated. Staff were pleasant, and it’s child friendly. The central location is handy.

The owners are very welcoming and friendly, and shared plenty about local lore and the stained glass windows showing scenes from Irish mythology, which they designed themselves. This is an affordable, clean, comfortable place in Clonmel, independently owned and run. It’s close to the pubs and restaurants, and the breakfast is simple but delicious. I’d highly recommend it and will be back!
