Clayton Hotel Cork City

Dinner in the bar on our arrival night was excellent and good value, with attentive, pleasant waiting staff. The breakfast spread the next morning was very good, though the cooked items had gone quite cool by the time we finished. My wife and I stayed one night and were very pleased with the hotel overall. The public spaces were clean and impressive, and our spacious, nicely laid-out room had everything we could want. If we're staying overnight in Cork again, we'll book here.

The room was lovely, though it had no fridge, and the shower water was only lukewarm on the day we left. Breakfast was good. I had soup in the bar, but it was cold and very gloopy, and there was only white bread to go with it. Otherwise, all good, and I'd definitely stay again.

The pool was fab and clean, and the staff there were lovely. Breakfast was surprisingly delicious, despite the reviews we'd read, and we couldn't fault the food or the staff. The receptionist was also very kind. When we picked up our bags, she wished my son a happy birthday and brought up a sweet treat. That was the highlight of our stay. My son chose this hotel for his birthday because the location suited us and it had a pool. I'd stayed before and had a nicer experience. Online check-in is handy, but confusing because it gives no information about breakfast or pool use. That needs looking at. The room was the worst part. It was tiny and internal, with a window looking down into the lobby, so it felt claustrophobic. Without bathroom ventilation or air conditioning it was stuffy. The room was very basic and needed extra touches and a deep clean. I know the hotel needs to use all its rooms, but guests should be told more clearly what these internal rooms are like. Last time, we booked a deluxe double too and got a fabulous sea view. Maybe these inside rooms should have a discounted rate so people can decide when booking. I feel I paid quite a high price for this shoebox, and sadly it's put me off booking here again. The area around the hotel has gotten very bad. I know that's outside the hotel's control, but I wouldn't feel comfortable staying there with my kids again.

We just had a group weekend here, and the rooms were extremely comfortable. The staff were very helpful, and the hotel met all our requirements perfectly. It's in a great spot for getting around the city.
