The only decent part was the student staff at reception. They were patient and understanding. Getting into the room was a mess: first we got key cards for a room that was already occupied, then cards for another room that wouldn't work. The mattress springs stuck out so badly that we preferred the floor. You could feel every turn across the room. The shower flooded the bathroom each time because the drain seemed more decorative than useful. The shared kitchen was almost empty, with no tea or coffee. I'd sooner sleep in a tent.

I’m a PhD student at UCC, and after staying at Crow's nest as a hotel guest in July and August 2025, I decided against living there for the academic year. I had a discounted summer rate, but student accommodation costs nearly 1,000 euros a month once you include the utilities fee, which has to be paid upfront in full. For that price, I don't think the services are good enough. The place is clean and modern, but the rooms feel like a prison or hospital: tiny, with barely enough room for the bed, and bathrooms where you can hardly move. The bathroom light and fan switch on automatically every time you enter. Four students have too little space in the kitchens, and the bins are so small I bought my own. Even reaching your room means passing through three key-card doors, and going in and out feels like a mission. I believe the cards switch to an app during the academic year. Laundry costs 6 euros for a wash and dry. Getting around is also a hassle. It's far from the city centre and grocery shops, while nearby convenience stores are expensive and limited. Cork buses are unreliable, especially at Victoria cross, so I bought a bike, which helped. On my last night, security knocked to say they were just checking in, which added to the prison feeling. Other students told me it wasn't very social and the fire alarm went off often. The staff were reasonably friendly, though the UCC accommodation system feels like a money-making machine focused on getting your money. When I realized how unfair it seemed, I felt they became colder and stopped telling me when packages arrived. In general, they were friendly enough. I'm still doing my PhD, but this housing experience set me back and wasn't a good environment for thriving in Cork. Maybe it suits medical students, since I believe their building is closer, but it wasn't right for me.

The location is a real plus, close to college and amenities, and the view is nice if you get a road-facing room. The place itself is pleasant, and the walls are thick, though the doors slam noisily. Rooms are on the small side, and the kitchen has little storage, with tiny bins that need emptying every other day. There's no bathroom bin, and mirrors took a year to be installed. The college WiFi isn't great. Staff were rude and unprofessional, and they didn't take maintenance seriously. A faulty door left me locked out for the whole weekend because security couldn't help. Maintenance then said it was fixed, but it locked itself three more times. I also chose this place based on email confirmations that I'd have the same bedroom and flatmate, but I was put in a different block, in a worse room on a lower floor. I was one of the first to arrive on move-in day and still couldn't get moved. They also refused to give me a physical keycard and only offered a phone app. If my phone died, I'd be locked out and couldn't even call security.

We had a spotless three-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, fresh towels and sheets, toiletries, and everything else we needed. The staff were lovely and very helpful, a great welcome after driving five hours from Belfast. There are shops and a nice coffee shop nearby, and the kitchen is fully equipped for making coffee. They left tea, coffee, milk and sugar sachets, so we could make breakfast or pick up pastries at the Centra. WiFi worked fine for us, though we were on a short holiday and didn't want to spend much time on our phones. The rooms were completely soundproof. It’s a lovely half-hour walk into Cork city centre. We loved staying here and hope to come back soon.

We got great attention at reception, even though we arrived close to midnight. The place was extremely clean and almost brand new, with three double rooms and a kitchen. Ideal for families, and we'd highly recommend it!
