Flemings Country House

We had lovely conversations with Eileen and Michael, who really are one of a kind. The house feels like their home, and both it and our gorgeous room were a treat. There was a little cordial before bed, and in the morning we had tea, toast and fruit in the garden before leaving. We also enjoyed an uphill walk and playing with the sibling kitties. A special place if you love old manor life and meeting amazing people, and the apple tart with tea was lovely too.

The host couple made me feel so welcome, and I loved meeting their two adorable cats. They gave me helpful ideas for places to see in Ireland, including spots that aren't so touristy. I arrived much too early, but my host greeted me warmly and showed me my room straight away. The mansion has wonderful vintage charm, and my room was cosy and traditional. The hostess even drove me to Cork, so I didn't have to wait for the bus. Absolutely beautiful hotel!

We chose to eat takeaway in the old restaurant rather than go into town, and Michael kindly set a table for us there. It made for a lovely evening in a special atmosphere, better than any pub could have been. We only stayed one night at the Fleming Country House, but rarely have we met such a warm host. Michael used to run a high-class French restaurant in the old manor for many years, until health reasons made him give it up. He now runs the B&B, and his passion comes through when he talks about the house's history. The rooms and house bring its grand past to mind. If you expect high technology, you may be disappointed, but anyone who appreciates old glamour and real style will find a wonderful B&B. Breakfast is no longer offered because demand is low. We're sure it would have been fabulous. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay, Michael.

The hosts can suggest places to park or have dinner, which is useful since the house is a little way from the city centre, though easy to reach by car. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The building is old, with some history the host could tell us about. One drawback was the short check-in window, which can be hard to manage when travelling. They should be more flexible. Recommended.
