Clayton Hotel Leopardstown

The staff were excellent, genuinely polite, and seemed to care about how my stay was going. The hotel itself is very nice and well looked after. The restaurant food was tasty enough, but the choice was limited and it was very expensive. I’d have liked a lighter breakfast option with just a bite to eat and coffee, instead of paying 19 EUROS for food I wouldn’t eat. The other guests were the hard part. The doors close softly, so there’s no need to slam them hard enough to shake the walls and wake people within 15 metres. One bus arrived and it sounded like bombs going off all night. Some consideration and a gentle pull would go a long way.

Getting here from Dublin airport was easy on the Aircoach, and it was handy for transport, which is why I stayed for one night. At check in, Jesus, whose name I double checked, was very helpful and arranged an early check in. The staff in general were great and always ready to help. The breakfast could use improvement. The scrambled eggs were watery, and the bakery items were hard to eat. The rooms could use some TLC too: the bathroom fittings were rusty and the carpets needed a thorough cleaning. One of the three elevators was out of service. I had quite a wait in the morning, since the service staff also use the elevators with their trolleys. With 72 rooms on each floor and 7 floors in the hotel, two elevators definitely aren’t enough.

We had a party of six, and the rooms were comfortable with plenty of space. The restaurant menu had lots of options, and breakfast offered plenty of choice too, including gluten free and vegetarian options. The staff were excellent and the service was top notch. The location was convenient, with easy access to main roads. There seems to be a bus to and from the airport as well, though I’m not sure of the details.

The room key kept forgetting my access, so I had to go to reception several times to get it reprogrammed. The room itself had no air conditioning or bathroom extractor fan. The coffee machine was dirty, and its plug looked unsafe. Sometimes the car park was full when I got back, and I had to park a long way from the hotel. The gym equipment was old and basic.
