The Light House

The owner was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were bright and clean. It’s a lovely guesthouse in a brilliant spot, just a ten-minute stroll from Eyre Square. For the city centre, you can’t really ask for more.

We had everything we needed for one night, including coffee, tea, a hair dryer, linens and seating. The room was roomy, clean and much more spacious than we expected, with a comfortable bed and a small but functional bathroom. It was secure and quiet for us, although other reviews mentioned noisy doors. The Latin Quarter is a bit of a walk, but the train station is only ten minutes away.

The rooms were clean, though dated, and it didn’t feel like good value to me. Check-in wasn’t until 4pm, which was awkward, and checkout was at 11. In the morning, they made plenty of noise cleaning other rooms, as if to make sure we were up and gone. I think I also had to pay 10 euro to park outside the house, which left a sour taste.

I’d recommend the back rooms only. The front rooms have a nice view, but the street stays busy all day and night, at least on Saturday. Parking also costs an extra 15 Euro per night.
