Kilmurvey House

The owners were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They drove us to and from Kilronan at dinner time, picked us up and dropped us off for the ferries, answered all our questions about the area and Ireland, and shared the history of their place. The house is a beautifully cared-for stone building with spacious common areas and clean, comfortable rooms. Breakfast was among the best we had on the trip. It was a highlight of our time in Ireland, and we'd certainly return. Although Kilmurvey House isn't right by the ferry landing in Kilronan, that worked out well for us. It's a short walk from Dun Aengus and a little farther from the wormhole. Both spots get busy with day-trippers, so staying nearby let us visit in the evening and morning when we could have them to ourselves. We had worried that the distance from Kilronan would make getting around difficult, but the owners made it easy.

A great place to stay on the island, within walking distance of the fort on the cliffs, good food, and the beach.

After the last ferry leaves, the island feels almost empty. We walked up to the nearby fort and had it to ourselves for most of the visit. With the ocean pounding far below the cliffs, it felt like sitting at the edge of the world. We were there in August and the weather was perfect, a welcome break from the 100-plus-degree heat back home. This is at the far end of the island, away from the docks and the busy area, so it made a peaceful retreat from everyday life. The host was wonderful. My wife wasn't feeling well, so we stayed in for supper, and our host went out of her way to bring us a light, tasty meal of bread, cheese, fruit, and hot tea in our room. It was a fantastic stay, and I'd definitely come back. The Aran Islands belong on a trip to Ireland, and staying overnight makes it even better. The slow, restful pace and gracious host might make you reluctant to leave.

A great place to stay with friendly service and a good breakfast. It’s near the beach, soup shop, and ice cream shop. The main drawback is that dinner options are farther away at night.
