The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a modern feel and TVs over 40 inches that had on-demand video. The dining room and sitting area were laid out well too. We had a comfortable enough stay, with some freedoms you don't get at a hotel, but it felt a bit overpriced for what we got. The outside looked like a dump, and the hallway wasn't much better. We ended up in two different rooms because the man on site, who wasn't the owner, put us in the wrong one on the first night. The bigger frustration was that he seemed to live in the sitting room around the clock. My partner was working that week, so we were up early and would try to use the sitting room, then the kitchen, to make breakfast. The door was locked every time because he was asleep on the couch. Sometimes the room stayed locked until 12:30-1 p.m. We spent quite a bit on quick breakfasts during the week because we couldn't get to the food we'd brought or use the kitchen.

Zunera gave us a friendly welcome, and the location was very good. Our room was clean, with a really comfortable bed. But the walls are so thin you can hear everything. When other guests came in during the night and turned on their TVs, it felt like we were sleeping in one big open room. People were also sleeping on couches in the shared area by the kitchen, so it was basically like staying in a hostel. Fixing the noise would mean renovating the house, I suppose, but I wouldn't stay again.

We turned down the apartment they offered us and were told we wouldn't get our money back if we didn't stay. We did not get a refund. We'd booked through Booking.com two days ahead. When we arrived in Kinsale at Zunera Lodge, we waited about 30 minutes in someone's living room before anyone helped us. The main caretaker then said our booking wasn't available because of fire alarm issues. He walked us across town to a different property, a place that looked vacant with rubbish and construction materials all over, and said we could stay in an apartment that was completely unacceptable. The caretaker was very unprofessional and pushed back when we declined.

I didn't stay in the end. There were rubbish sacks and empty bottles in the doorway, flies everywhere, and a terrible smell. Staff weren't wearing masks and came too close, so I asked them to step back because there were no social distancing measures. They started talking to each other in their own language, and I had no idea what they were saying. Filthy place all round. Don't stay here.

The host was an absolute gent and couldn't do enough for us. Loved the balcony and its great view. The room was lovely, and the shower had loads of space. Highly recommend, 5/5.
