Dunraven Arms Hotel

I’d happily come back. The staff and service were excellent, and my room was spotlessly clean. Every part of my stay felt flawless, and The Maigue Restaurant was a real highlight, with fine dining that was extremely well executed. A couple of small things could be improved: the trouser press in the room needs updating, and slippers would be a nice touch. Neither affected what was otherwise an amazing experience.

The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished, but the guest facilities let the place down. The bar is tiny and not especially comfortable, and the restaurant feels too small, particularly at breakfast. I didn’t use the pool. The restaurant food was okay, though the menu was limited. Breakfast was very stodgy, and the bacon still had its rind on. I know it has apparently won awards for breakfast, but I’d give it 3/5. Ireland isn’t known for its food, though.

We spent Christmas here with family, and the team worked incredibly hard to make it special. The service was impeccable and no request felt like too much. The food was varied and really good, even during the busy holiday period when I might have expected blander options. The location and setting are hard to beat, with coffee shops, pubs, boutiques, and walkways nearby. Sometimes very modern, opulent hotels lack the comfort and atmosphere that the Dunraven Arms has. The staff deserve an award for how attentive they are to guests. I highly recommend staying here.

I booked a massage in advance at the Spa with Fiona, and she was amazing. The hotel and staff were lovely too, and the breakfast and dinner were both outstanding. The breakfast buffet goes well beyond a “full Irish”, with lots of choices and little extras. Sunday morning was busy, but food was quickly and generously replenished. Dinner was top notch, with food, presentation, and service at the level of a high-end restaurant. We stayed for two nights with breakfast and dinner recently. It was great value, and we’ll be back.
