Armada Hotel

The staff were so nice, which really added to our two-night stay with a friend for the reset retreat. We loved the fabulous food, especially breakfast, and those amazing views. It's a fantastic spot for a hotel. I'll be back with my husband next time.

The rooms were gorgeous, thoughtfully decorated, and had a great shower. We got such a warm welcome, and the staff were lovely local people. Breakfast was the best I've had at a hotel, with a great selection. I also loved that everything was sustainable, with little to no plastic waste. I love this hotel and highly recommend it.

For a wedding or event, this hotel is incredible. If you're after a quiet getaway, though, our two-night stay was disappointing for the price and quality. The location is beautiful, the restaurant and breakfast are top class, the staff are great, and the attached pub is top tier for drinks and live music. The sauna is a 70° barrel overlooking the bay, with a cold bucket. There's a lovely outdoor relaxation area when the weather allows, too. But over our three days, the indoor relaxation area was off limits because of a wellness retreat and a wedding drinks reception. There was nowhere comfortable to sit with a book, as events kept taking over. We arrived at 2.15pm for the 3pm check-in, and understood that our room wasn't ready yet. We went to burkes bar, which is incredible, but day two of a wedding was underway and things were messy for that hour. At 3.10 our room still wasn't ready because of late checkouts after the wedding the night before. We got two drinks vouchers, but had lost our seats and had to stand at the bar amid the wedding activity. We were told we'd get a call when the room was ready, but no call came. When we checked again at 4.10, it was ready. The room was spacious, but the bed was worn and lopsided on the left. Soundproofing was poor, so drunken wedding guests running and singing in the halls into the early hours made a good night's sleep impossible. Reception didn't answer when we called to complain. We left feeling more wrecked than when we arrived, after what was meant to be a relaxing break. I'd recommend it for an event, but not for a restful getaway. To me, that makes it a four-star hotel.

The place looked fabulous for Christmas, and our big room had been decorated for the season. The bed was comfortable, the food was lovely and breakfast was good. We did feel some of the food could have been hotter. Service was good and the staff very helpful. It was a beautiful location, and I'd love to return.
