Elaine met us at the gates and made us feel welcome right away. Our room was in the courtyard, separate from the house, perhaps in what used to be the stables, and had everything we needed. The kitchen and dining room were right next door, and we were welcome to use them whenever we liked. Breakfast the next morning was superb. We had planned to stay two nights but had to leave on the second morning, so I can't say much about the grounds. Ballinwillin House is a working farm, and the owner, John, stopped by at breakfast to welcome us and thank us for choosing to stay.

The bed and shower were the best, and breakfast was fantastic. From the moment you pass through the big wrought iron gates, you feel looked after. The owners were engaging and wonderful, and the manager was very helpful. The property is an expansive oasis with red deer and other farm animals, tucked behind a neighborhood in Mitchelstown and within walking distance of town. This was hands down the nicest place we stayed on our trip, even compared with some higher end places. They sometimes hold wine tastings in their private cellar featuring their own wines from Hungary. The wine was outstanding, but you'd need to arrange a tasting in advance. If I could give it 10 stars, I would. We'll be back.

The freshly cooked breakfast was a real treat, filling and made with local organic farm ingredients, and served with pride. The rooms are in a restored section of the old country house building on the large farm. Ours was very clean, with a comfortable king size bed, free Wi-Fi, a television, and tea and coffee both in the room and in the kitchen downstairs. There's a little kitchen guests can use like one in a self-catering apartment. The shower is spacious and has a skylight. The woman looking after the place was down to earth, considerate, and made us feel at home. We could walk around the grounds, use the path, meet the local dog, and see the wild deer. It's well placed for getting to different counties, and the price for two people was surprisingly affordable, though prices vary. Whether you're visiting for an event, on your own, or as a couple, it's great value and a lovely experience. I'd definitely return.

I had a medical emergency during my stay, and the hosts were incredibly helpful. I really appreciated it, especially with a top notch world class main hospital not far away. The property is a very quiet, peaceful working organic farm, behind safe, secure gates, and I loved the tranquil atmosphere. Everywhere I looked was scrupulously clean, and the place felt newly refurbished and decorated, comfortable and like a home away from home. The hosts were lovely and welcoming. The huge room could rival any 5 star hotel. Guests can also use the shared kitchen, dining room, and lounge or reading room. Breakfast was top quality, with an extensive continental buffet and plenty of cereals, plus cooked options made with wonderful organic produce from the farm. The Wild Boar Sausages were to die for. I didn't want to leave.

I especially recommend this place if you want to experience a more traditional Irish setting. Pat and Miriam and their colleague Elaine went out of their way to welcome and look after my family and me. They were supremely kind and attentive. The bed was extremely comfortable, and we slept very well. Their house is beautiful, with exquisitely maintained gardens and estate grounds. Ballinwillin House has such a peaceful atmosphere and nurturing hospitality. I can't recommend it enough.
