Hillgrove Hotel

The leisure centre and gym have good facilities, and staff throughout the hotel were friendly and attentive. But the bar food wasn’t up to a high standard and was very overpriced. Some small things were missing that would’ve been appreciated: plastic bags for wet pool clothes in the changing rooms, body lotion in the rooms, and dressing gowns. Having to pay €12 to rent a gown is ridiculous.

The room was spacious for our family of four, and the bathroom facilities were top notch. The staff member who served our food was very friendly, chatty and lovely. He definitely deserves a raise. There were several problems too. The receptionist who checked us in didn’t know the dinner or breakfast times. He said the bar took walk-ins and wasn’t busy on Friday evening, but it was packed and we ended up being served in a function room. He also gave the wrong breakfast hours, saying 7 am to 10 am. The indoor pool felt quite cold for the time of year, and the room heating took a while to come on during the cold spell. There didn’t seem to be a noise policy either. I was woken three times by very loud guests at different times in the early morning.

Dean Coyne, the Wedding Coordinator, helped make our wedding day the best it could be. From booking through to the day itself, he made everything easy, including packages with a range of trusted suppliers who all turned out to be incredible. A massive thank you, Dean. We stayed the night before the wedding at the Hillgrove Hotel. From then until checkout, the staff treated everyone who attended and stayed exceptionally well. They made our special day even more memorable. There aren’t enough positive adjectives to show our appreciation for all the staff. If you’re planning a wedding, I’d 100% recommend visiting Dean and the Hillgrove.

We really enjoyed our visit. The hotel was very nice, and both the service and food were excellent. We’ll return.
