Wolseley Holiday Homes at Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa & Country Club

The dim lighting in the restaurant made dinner feel romantic, and we couldn't fault the food. We enjoyed everything from the starters through to dessert, and the couple at the next table felt the same. We stayed here for my birthday, and it was a lovely treat. Breakfast was a delicious buffet, then we headed to the Jacuzzi. Our standard room was nicely decorated, roomy, and had a very comfortable bed. The staff were genuinely lovely and obliging. We'd definitely come back in the coming months. My partner is already planning a round of golf while I relax in the Spa.

Breakfast was self service, with a fantastic selection of excellent food. Dinner was very good too, though our soup arrived without a spoon or bread, so we had to ask. We waited an hour for the main course, but after we mentioned it to a server, the service improved. We stayed for one night with B&B and dinner. Check-in was efficient, and the room was comfortable once we got inside. The door cards failed, so I went down from the top floor to reception to have them activated again, twice. They worked that evening, then were declined again when we returned after breakfast.

The room was clean, comfortable and relaxing, and the grounds helped offset some of the problems. Still, we wouldn't return or recommend the stay. It was disappointing given the venue's potential. We'd planned a quiet one-night family getaway. The poolside sauna and steam room area wasn't well kept: the hot tub was dirty, and the small sauna needed refurbishment. The next morning we paid to use the thermal suites. They were acceptable, but didn't compare with similar places we've visited, and there was no sauna included. We skipped booking the restaurant and ate in the lounge instead. The shared starter arrived quickly and was enjoyable, but our drinks only came after we'd finished it, and we had to ask for them again. Then we waited over an hour from the starter being cleared to the mains arriving, even after asking staff to check on the order. The food was extremely poor. The chicken burger was stone cold, the beef burger seemed reheated and was hard and rubbery, and the pasta tasted so bad it was inedible. None of us could eat our meals. The whole dinner felt like a waste of time and money, and it was upsetting to be served food of such low quality.

The restaurant dinner was fabulous, and we really enjoyed our round of golf. It's one of the best courses we've played, so we'll definitely be back. We had a fantastic stay at the Mount Worsley hotel. Everything runs smoothly, and the staff were so good. Whoever's in charge clearly knows what they're doing.
