The Plough B&B

Ventry Beach and Quinn's Pub are lovely, but I wouldn’t recommend this B&B. The house and rooms were only okay, and very expensive for what we got. The host was stern, rude, and negative, with no hospitality at all. I was even threatened by a B&B host for the first time. It’s sad to leave a review like this, but future travellers should know. In an update, the host had said the place would close after the 2025 season. That turned out not to be true, and it’s back in business for 2026. I can see why it’s hard to give up charging €300 a night while offering so little comfort or hospitality, with so many overseas visitors coming to this scenic part of Ireland.

The house itself was clean and nice, but the owner’s attitude made for a very strange stay. We felt unwelcome, as though we were in the way. They didn’t reply to our emails or texts. Bringing bikes seemed to be a problem, and after my bike was moved and damaged, the owner said it hadn’t been. The manner was condescending and passive aggressive. Maybe they once enjoyed running a B&B, but perhaps life has soured them. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The patio is really cosy, and the views from the room are amazing. The front garden is kept in top shape, so you can tell they put a lot of effort into it. The hosts are friendly and helpful, a great example of how to run a B&B.

Beatrice knew the area really well and was professional and helpful, with good suggestions for places to see and things to do. The house and rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly. We stayed at The Plough B&B over the August weekend. It’s in a great spot, with fantastic views across Ventry Bay and the surrounding area. I’d definitely book again.
