Check-in was good, and the place is central, cheap and generally clean, though I found a long brunette hair on the bathroom sink, and I’m fair-haired. The room was fine for the few hours I was there, but breakfast was a mess. There was no system, and the woman we think was cooking and taking orders was overwhelmed by four guests. She shouted from the kitchen for people to stop ordering, and nobody came out to ask if we wanted anything. My scrambled eggs and rashers looked great but tasted terrible, with no seasoning, so I settled for self-service toast and coffee. When I politely asked for more coffee, she said I was taking the piss. The attitude was poor, and I’m not sure I’d return.

The rooms were clean, the facilities were good, and I enjoyed a four-night stay. There was a great choice at breakfast and the food was excellent. I’d highly recommend it and will book again on my next trip to Waterford.

The room gets far too warm at night, and there’s no way to control the heat. The washroom is built very unevenly, which makes it uncomfortable. For the facilities, it felt overpriced, and the place was just okay.

Had a very enjoyable Sunday night stay at the barley field. The pint in the spacious bar was top class, and breakfast the next morning was excellent quality. Reception gave us a friendly welcome, the room was spotlessly clean and all the staff were friendly. No problem recommending it.

The walk back from town is very steep, and noise from the adjoining pub kept me awake until 5am on Saturday. The rooms and hotel interior need updating. I’d recommend looking for somewhere else to stay.
