The Old Cable Historic House

During a bank holiday road trip, I booked a dog-friendly room here and was delighted with how the stay went. Even in the quiet season, it was a lovely place, and we both slept like babies. It's a quick walk into town, with fantastic walks along the promenade. We met some lovely locals in the Lobster, where I could bring my dog. It was still a bit too cold to sit outside with pints. I'll certainly stay at the Old Cable again when I'm in the area, with or without the dog.

We were visiting family nearby and had a fantastic stay. The hosts were superstars, the bedding was lovely, and the triple room was a good size with a spacious shower and bathroom. It was great to come back here after long days at the beach. I'd stay again.

Waterville is beautiful, and the people are lovely. Margaret and Alan looked after me so well, and I had the best stay. It felt like a home from home, and the food was delicious too. Highly recommend staying here. I'll definitely be back.

I wasn't planning to write a review, and didn't even know how to do it, but after thinking about it overnight, I feel people should hear about the dreadful experience my wife had with the people running this place. We've had a holiday home in the area for over 20 years, and a group of 10 friends is arriving this week for a couple of days. We planned to order takeaway from this restaurant on Wednesday night for them and us, 12 people in total. Last week the online service showed it as closed, and the restaurant didn't return numerous calls. Yesterday at 16.50, my wife, Philomena, was leaving Waterville, saw the signs at the entrance, and stopped in. A staff member asked if she could help. When Phil asked whether they were open for takeaway, she was told yes. Phil explained the website had said “closed” last week and she'd called several times, and said she was looking for clarification. The girl smiled but didn't answer. Then a man appeared and started shouting, “You're the one that put in a bad review last week???” A woman came out too, also shouting, “Get out, we're not open.” From what Phil told me, they were both quite belligerent. The man shouted after her, “Get off our premises, we don't need your sort here.” Phil had no idea what they meant. After she told me what happened, I had no trouble understanding that someone had left them a negative review. I rarely read or write reviews, but I do reward good service with a generous tip. Maybe I should have read some reviews of this place first, and my wife could have been spared this nasty experience. Because of what happened to her, I think people should know what they could possibly encounter when they enter this premises. Customer service????
