The Camping Site Hamat Gader

My family came for a vacation and the water was so nice, warm and really relaxing. The whole place smelled like boiled eggs, though. By the time I got home I felt refreshed.

Everything was very good. People who smoke should give some thought to where the smoking areas are.

Getting someone at reception was a problem. I went there twice and nobody was around, with no way to call them from there, so I eventually just left. When I did reach them by phone, they weren’t very polite. The sauna wasn’t running when I tried at 8 AM, and reception still wasn’t staffed. Someone arrived at 9 and said they usually don’t open it before 10. Why wait until then, when it gets so hot outside after 10 in this area at this time of year? If the heat makes people want a sauna, it seems more likely to be later at night or early in the morning. They also could have told us the hours in advance, or simply been at reception. Our junior suite was okay, nothing fancy and not what I’d expect from a five-star hotel. The private balcony and bathtub fed by the local spring were a nice feature, but the balcony was enclosed in a fairly dark room. None of the windows or doors could be opened, so it didn’t have much of a vibe and some fresh air would have helped. Breakfast offered a range of mediocre food, maybe acceptable by European standards. Still, we had a delightful short getaway.

The staff were lovely and made us feel pampered, and the stay was a perfect vacation. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with our own jacuzzi and balcony. Breakfast was tasty and generous, and there was some chocolate in the room along with a Nespresso machine that worked only somewhat reliably. The spa felt intimate, the massages were great, and its hot pool stays open all night. We could also use the rest of the grounds, including a large hot pool and a cold pool. The one inconvenience was the lack of dinner options after 6 pm, so we had to leave the spa to find food.
