HQ Bar & Restaurant

The restaurant was the opposite of our hotel experience. We stayed at HQ Hotel in June 25 with a large group during TT, when we couldn't find another hotel with availability. We'd have given a negative rating if that were possible. Staff didn't take our complaints seriously, and nothing changed after we raised them. The hotel says it's four star and claims in its own materials that rooms are cleaned daily, but our room was never cleaned during the stay. The bed was occasionally made, but that isn't the same as cleaning. We had to remove the rubbish ourselves and arrange our own towels and toilet paper. For a hotel claiming that standard, the service was completely unacceptable and made us very uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and definitely won't return.

Our two-night stay turned into three when our flight was cancelled. The breakfasts were great, especially the kippers, and they poured a very good pint of Guinness at the bar. Everyone on staff was really friendly and nice, which made it a properly nice trip. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

We tried the restaurant for the first time last week and were so impressed that we went back. Ash, the manager, is excellent, and along with waitress B makes a great team. The service is spot on and the food is excellent. I had the steak tonight, cooked and presented well, and my vegan wife loved her choice. Can't recommend it highly enough, just book and try it, you won't be disappointed.

We came to HQ Bar for the Early Burns Night because we used to go there years ago for the steak nights, which were great value. The seating was comfortable, the decor nice, and the meal was tasty. Service was very good, with the two staff on duty working hard to get the three-course dinner out to everyone. We would have liked more mash and vegetables with the haggis, though. At £40 per person, it felt a bit expensive for what we got. We were given two whiskeys with the meal, and although dinner was meant to start at 7, it didn't get going until after 7:30. The food was good overall, but prices have gone up quite a bit.
