Melrose Guest House

This was my third stay at the Melrose in 11 years of coming for the Manx GP, after staying in several guest houses over that time. That probably says it all, and I expect to come back again. Peter was a great host and served a really good full English breakfast. The house is on a fairly steep hill, as are many places around there, so keep that in mind.

Peter is a very welcoming, pleasant host, and both the room and breakfast were great. I couldn’t fault my stay at the Melrose Guest House. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in the Isle of Man.

It’s good value and close to the centre, with clean rooms and a good breakfast. Peter was really attentive during service from 8:00 to 9:00 am. Renovations were going on, though, and there were a few problems with workmen at odd hours and the electrics tripping. Without those issues, it would have been five stars.

Peter Christian made us feel very welcome, and his local knowledge was a real help. We stayed for a week at Melrose Guest House on a B&B package for our first trip to the Isle of Man, including flights from Birmingham (BHX). Our first-floor room had an en-suite shower and WC. With advance notice, they also provided a gluten-free English breakfast option that suited my food intolerances. Breakfast was excellent and set us up for exploring each day. The central Douglas location near Manx Museum was handy for the town centre, Promenade, railway station, buses, shops, cafes, and restaurants. We really enjoyed the warm welcome and service.
