Hydro Hotel

We were with a coach party and would definitely recommend this hotel. Our room was comfortable, clean, and well stocked, and the food was excellent with something for all tastes. You could ask for Manx kippers at breakfast. The hallways and stairs looked a bit tired, but were still clean and in working order. The hotel and staff were amazing.

There are great views and public transport nearby, and our family room was more than big enough for the three of us. We visited in early October 2024 with a coach party. Breakfast was an adequate buffet with cooked and continental options. Dinner had fewer choices, but we managed, and the Scottish barman was very friendly. Mobility could be an issue getting into and out of the hotel, and reaching the rooms, as there's a short flight of steps on each floor.

The seafront family room was brilliant, with a double bed and three singles for the three of us, and we had no complaints about it. We stayed six nights in October with a coach group, after the season had finished. Getting around can be awkward if you're less agile, with around 12 steps into the hotel and more between the lift and each floor. The menu was limited and the food rather poor, though we're not fussy eaters. Most staff didn't interact with the holidaymakers and looked fed up, though the Scots barman and two others were friendly. On day two or three, many guests, including us, came down with Norovirus, even the chef. A memorable holiday for the wrong reasons.

It's in a quieter part of Douglas, and the staff are friendly and helpful. They even offered to take our bags to the room, something not many places seem to do now. The building could use some TLC, and I wish my room still had a door separating the bedrooms. Still, I'd highly recommend it as a budget place to stay.
