Knockaloe Beg Farm

The farmhouse is charming and comfortable, and I loved the communal breakfasts and meeting the other guests. The gardens and views are beautiful, everything is green and grown organically, and it’s used in the meals. There are lots of farm animals to enjoy, including pigs, sheep, chickens, a donkey and even a Manx cat or two. I was also glad to have clotheslines, since I needed to hand-wash clothes for the rest of my trip. I chose Knockaloe Beg Farm because it was an easy walk to the Knockaloe Prison Museum, where I had a legacy interview about my grandfather. Katherine was a huge help with arrangements and changes before the visit. Jen went out of her way to handle my meal and other needs, and she was wonderful, especially with her red curry. Caleb was attentive and helpful at mealtimes. A lovely experience, and I recommend it.

The best part of breakfast was sharing the table with the other guests and enjoying the conversation. Jen served a tasty breakfast and was super friendly and helpful. Knockaloe Beg would be top of my list for another visit. The farmhouse B&B is clean and comfortable, with a homely feel and spacious rooms. The beds were very comfortable, the goose-down bedding was nice, and each room had a selection of teas and coffees as well as sherry and port. There are thoughtful extras throughout, like an emergency toiletries case in the bathroom. Guests can use the living rooms, drinks, homemade flapjacks and equipment such as wellies, flasks and umbrellas. The owners aim to use local and/or ethically sourced products and support environmentally friendly initiatives where possible. It’s in a beautiful spot, well placed for westward access to Peel and the coastal path.

The hot tub was the icing on the cake once I got the hang of the log burner. There was plenty of wood, and the wigwam was clean, tidy and really cosy. The bed gets a thumbs up too, we slept like babies. We were there for our 10-year anniversary, and the setting was just what we wanted for a proper break as a couple. The wigwam had everything we needed and we had a great time.

We had a really big, clean and tidy room, and the breakfast was great. One morning my wife and I went with John to feed the animals, which was great fun and really informative. John and Fiona, along with the rest of their crew, were excellent hosts. Fantastic stay, and we’d definitely go back.
