The chai is only Rs.15, and it's pretty good. I had bun maska with two masala chais for Rs.60, under 75 US cents. Deodar's café is on two levels: a grassy garden courtyard below and a tin-roofed upper area with cane chairs and tables. Service was brisk and friendly, and the café is great value. From there you get fine views of the valley and Mall Road, with tall trees around and birds and monkeys to watch.

The quiet setting, away from the crowds, is a big part of why we've enjoyed staying here. My wife and I have visited three times, spending a full week each time, and once travelled from here to Mayavati Ashram with the owner, Mr.Girish Shah. He's the grandson of Late. Lala Badri Shah, a close friend of Swami Vivekananda. There’s a spiritual history to the house too: the deodar tree in the lawn is where Swami Vivekananda blessed Sister Nivedita. The house also has furniture, letters in Swamiji's handwriting, and items used by Swamiji. We hope to come back soon. Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Shah, and all the best to young Vaibhav Shah.

The rooms were neat and clean, with very basic amenities. This is an old property but it's been kept very well and has historical value. Swami Vivekanand visited three times with his follower Bhavani Nivedita, and items he used can be seen in the landlord's house. It's near the Mall Road and Link Road junction.

I loved the food and the views, and the service was excellent. Hotel Deodar went beyond what I expected and made for an unforgettable stay. Highly recommend it!

There's easy parking, and the setting is calm despite being in the city. Deodar trees surround the hotel, with a beautiful view of the Himalayas. The museum here has Swami Vivekanand ji's letters and personal belongings. People including Swami Vivekanand, Ravindra Nath Tagore, and Sister Nivedita stayed here. A lovely choice for scholars and people who enjoy nature and culture.
