SPOT ON 63445 Deep Guest House

The owner was very hospitable and even arranged a railway station pickup and drop-off for me at an odd hour. The room and bathroom were clean, and the geyser and other amenities were provided. It's only a 5-6 minute walk through the street to the Golden Temple entrance. The lane is narrow for about 40m, which is normal for old areas, and rickshaws are readily available. A good, convenient place if you want to stay near the Golden Temple. I had a good experience.

The main plus is being close to Golden Temple: we walked there at midnight. It's in the middle of a large wholesale market, though, and you have to walk a bit to reach the guest house. They may arrange a rickshaw to pick you up, but not to drop you at checkout. Our first impression of the rooms was poor. They were tiny, and I found two used soaps in the bathroom. They gave us fresh soap and towels after we asked. The toilets were dirty, and when the zed spray in one room didn't work, they offered another, larger room. Don't count on room service. When we came back from Golden Temple in the middle of the night, the doors were locked. We called many times, no one answered, and we ended up sleeping in our car. If you want a cheap room near Golden Temple, you could stay here, but don't expect much service.

The only real advantage is that Golden Temple is a 5-10 minute walk, depending on your pace. The location is congested, with no parking, and even a two-wheeler can't reach the guest house. There's no room service, and they didn't even provide drinking water. This OYO Deep Guest House tie-up seems to be why people get trapped after booking. I paid 750/- rupees per night for an AC room in August 2023.

Deep Guest House is in a good part of Amritsar, with plenty worth seeing nearby, and Darbar Sahib is an easy walk. Mr Mohit, the owner, explained a shorter route there. You may need Google Maps to find the guest house. I stayed for three days and had a pretty good experience. Just don't expect the owner to provide a water bottle. It's a guest house where you can rest, then head out and see the city.
