La Franklin Hotel

The weak WiFi was another letdown, and the room itself was only decent for the price. The mattresses had broken springs and the pillows were so soft they gave no support, which left me expecting neck and back pain. I also found roaches in the bathroom. Housekeeping either didn’t notice them or didn’t respond when guests pointed them out. The food was inexpensive but nothing special, and the same included breakfast every day got boring. The hotel is a small, attractive green spot in a rough industrial area, though it has clearly aged and the flyover has cut it off from the highway. The rooms are fairly spacious and have most of the amenities I’d expect at this budget. What made the stay frustrating was the front desk. Even requests for a firmer mattress or pillow, or a plate for food I’d brought in, got a “pay for it” response. The staff were so rigid that during our last visit they wouldn’t let us speak with a manager or supervisor for three days. After hearing a positive-sounding reply, we booked another stay starting tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes. I think management should look at similarly priced hotels elsewhere to see how hospitality has changed.

The beds made it especially hard to sleep. Many rooms have small twin beds with very old mattresses and worn springs, and those really need replacing. Room furniture is dated too, while the LCD TVs are old and don’t work properly. Key cards often fail, and if something goes wrong, I’ve had to call reception repeatedly before anyone responds. There’s no local market nearby, and outside food delivery isn’t allowed. That leaves guests buying from the hotel, where the prices are quite high. I travel often for work and usually stay within my company’s budget, but I wouldn’t recommend this place for corporate trips. It might suit a short stay, such as couples or OYO-type bookings.

La franklin has a welcoming team and a really attractive property. I found the staff accommodating, the food was very good, and my stay felt comfortable. Definitely a peaceful, hassle-free place to stay.
