Down Da Village

We paid ₹5000 a night, left as soon as we could, and found an Airbnb for the same price that felt like a 5-star hotel by comparison. I'd strongly advise against staying here, especially with women or family. My mother was extremely uncomfortable with the crowd, lack of privacy and general condition of the place. It may be acceptable to some, but it wasn't for us. Disgusting, uncomfortable and completely not worth the price. Avoid it. We stayed at Down The Village for two days. Our booking was under another property name, and only when we arrived did the receptionist casually say there was no room and ask us to move to another property of hers. Nobody told us beforehand. If we'd known, we'd have made other arrangements, but we arrived late at night and felt we had no choice but to accept what we were given. The room was filthy and unhygienic, with dirty floors, filthy walls and an old, rotting cupboard that seemed like a health hazard. The lighting was terrible, and there were no curtains, so people outside could see right in, even when we were changing. Staying there with my mother made that feel especially uncomfortable and unsafe. The washroom was disgusting, with a dirty floor and visible pan stains and what looked like alcohol or vodka stains. My brother decided not to bathe. There was no housekeeping or cleanliness, and the water supply stopped in the morning. There was a shortage, and people were literally shouting about it. There was no geyser, air-conditioning, privacy, cleanliness or proper water supply. Nothing about the place justified the price.

The room was full of bugs and mosquitoes. When we complained and asked to move because it was so gross, they handed us two incense sticks, agarbatti, for the bugs. Are you kidding me? The hygiene was nonexistent, the room stank, and they didn't even give us toiletries. This place ruined the money and mood we spent on our vacation. If I could give zero stars, I would. A total nightmare.

Don't recommend Down da Village Resort. The poor staff attitude and dirty conditions made for a very negative stay. On top of aggressive pricing tactics and unreasonable facility restrictions, basic maintenance and hygiene were lacking. The rooms and washrooms were unclean, the bed smelled bad, and the linens were visibly dirty, making us very uncomfortable. There was no hot water or complimentary water bottle, and the whole experience was a worst-case scenario.

The rooms smelled, the toilet fittings were rusty, and the bedsheets were torn and unhygienic. Cleanliness and maintenance were extremely poor, and it didn't feel like a place worth staying in. I'd tell others to avoid it and double-check the listing details before booking. One of my most unpleasant stays in Goa. At Hotel Down Da Village, Candolim, Goa, I'd paid ₹1400 as a booking amount. When I arrived, I was shocked to hear the property had been sold to a new owner. The updated listing for the same hotel showed a room rate of ₹695, so I had been charged almost twice as much. I decided to stay anyway to avoid an argument, but the experience was horrible.
