Four Points by Sheraton Chennai OMR

Dinner could use work. Although the restaurant has a good range of cuisines, some dishes were bland, the flavors didn't match the standard of the other services, and the menu could have more variety. Still, the friendly staff and great service made up for the dining letdown. I enjoyed the wide breakfast selection, with South Indian and continental choices from idli and dosa to fresh coffee and pastries. The location is convenient for tech parks, shopping centers, and other attractions, and the modern, spacious rooms were clean, comfortable, and had the needed amenities. Overall, Four Points by Sheraton, OMR Chennai was a good stay, and I'd recommend it for the location, rooms, and breakfast.

The slow check-in set a poor tone: just one person was working the front desk, and it took almost 15 minutes. I was also surprised to find that the only restaurant service was breakfast. The room and corridors smelled musty, the shower water had an odd odor, and there was no hot water. Housekeeping made up the room but didn’t replenish the tea bags. Rooms facing the main arterial road get quite a bit of noise, too. I’d recently stayed at a beautiful property from the same brand in Palawan, so this basic business hotel was a real letdown. I won’t stay here again.

We’ve stayed at more than 20 Marriott properties in India and close to 50 around the world over the past 11 years as Gold and Platinum members. This was our worst stay. It was very disappointing to find standards like this at a Marriott, and it left us wondering whether the hotel might close soon. The rooms and bathrooms were in poor condition. The whole room, and much of the hotel, smelled of smoke. Water from the bathroom spilled into the room and smelled bad; the bed, mattress, blankets, and towels also smelled very unpleasant. The flooring and ceiling looked dated, and the room had little natural light. The curtains seemed to cover walls, with no glass windows. Service was poor as well. Even after clear instructions, our towels weren’t replaced. Repeated calls to the front desk and housekeeping went unanswered, and they wouldn’t send basic cutlery to the room. Check-in was painfully slow, with only one receptionist even at a busy time. Greenpark Hotels and Resorts Pvt Ltd manages this hotel and operates around 8-10 others in south India. I’d avoid staying at any of their other properties.

The rooms are small, though manageable, and the menu looks extensive. But after 10:00 pm, the only options are biryani and khichdi. I was in town for work on my birthday. I ordered at 9:00pm after getting back, followed up several times, then gave up and went to bed without food. At 11:45pm, while I was fast asleep, someone knocked and brought a salad, only half of what I’d ordered. It also seemed like they changed my email address so I wouldn’t receive the usual automatic feedback email. I’d suggest trying Novotel to see the difference. I’m not going to let this place ruin another day just to collect some points.
