Hotel Planet Grande by OYO Rooms

The room was spacious and the place is handy for getting around, with the metro, bus stand and auto or taxi close by. But the stay was still a letdown. It was dingy and badly lit, with mosquitoes in the room and stained, stale linen. I had to ask for a fresh towel. They only provided a towel and soap, and there was no drinking water. The bathroom was dirty, though water was available. The TV had only a few Tamil channels. I wouldn’t come back.

OYO eventually moved me to another hotel, 1.8 kms away, after I complained about the awful late-night experience. Getting through to the right customer service agent was another struggle. One person left me on hold and never returned; another said they couldn’t hear me after I’d explained the problem. At this hotel, it felt like whoever paid more got a better room. They first showed me room no 207, which was yak, then asked me to pay extra for another room that still had issues. Only after paying even more did I get a good room. Even after my OYO money was applied, the hotel overcharged me. It was late and I had no other option, so I had to pay. The room was filthy, dusty and in disrepair, with a broken AC that made sleeping in Chennai’s heat impossible. The bathroom looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in ages, and was horrifying and unusable. Sheets and blankets had obvious blood and semen stains. There was no drinking water or geyser, and no WiFi or working TV, despite what was advertised. The booking was a mess too. Although I had OYO confirmation, the hotel said my online booking didn’t exist and asked me to cancel and book offline for twice the price. A rude woman with tattoos at reception ignored me and insisted on the higher rate. They also refused my friend’s government-verified DigiLocker ID. Staff only grudgingly accepted the online price after I called OYO support. The OYO photos were completely misleading. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Collection O Planet Grande By Elite Hospitality is a definite no-go. OYO should investigate the property and reconsider its listing. Avoid it.

I’ve stayed in hotels before, but this was the worst experience. The receptionist was on the phone when I arrived and didn’t greet me or start check-in for a while. The staff didn’t respond well and spoke to me very badly. The public room photo had been heavily edited and didn’t look like the real room. I was very disappointed and can’t recommend it.
