OYO 14973 The Grand Kubera

For 1800 /- we got a very dirty room. The bedsheet and blankets smelled bad, the room hadn’t been swept before check-in, and the dustbin was wet and already full of garbage. The washroom was unclean too, with hair left behind, a broken toilet seat, and a leaking jet spray. Half the POP ceiling had fallen. They provided only a water bottle, with no soap or towels like other hotels. Not recommended at all.

This average lodge is right in the city centre, with good restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were clean, but I expected cleaner bedsheets, and toiletries weren’t provided. On a cold morning the hot water wasn’t available. The service guy said the heater had a problem, even though we’d initially been told hot water would be available until 12pm.

The reception person was generous and welcoming, and suggested some good places for us to see. The rooms are good for the price, and you can try negotiating. It seems suitable for families and friends too. Since the restaurant is new, the lift isn’t working.

It was clean and reasonably priced, and worked for a group, but I didn’t have much else good to say. The staff didn’t feel very helpful. Maybe it was an attitude issue, I couldn’t really tell. We’d booked an extra mattress but didn’t get it. They weren’t interested in sorting that out because fewer of us showed up than they expected. I’d paid for it, so why should being short a few people mean I couldn’t get it? There’s no restaurant. During my visit to Chikmagaluru the whole city was shut for Datta Jayanti, and we nearly had to go to bed hungry. Having no restaurant made things pretty difficult. We were a little late checking out and were told there’d be an extra charge, though we didn’t end up paying. That attitude bothered me, especially since they’d made me wait when the room wasn’t vacant at check-in and I’d accepted their apology. They couldn’t let us have a little extra time at checkout too? It felt like a double standard. I wouldn’t call it a bad place to stay, but if you find something similar, this hotel probably won’t stand out.
