Mountain Retreat - A Hill Country Resort

The cottage worked really well for our family, with all the kids able to stay together comfortably. We spent four days at Mountain Retreat, Ooty, and loved the beautiful, refreshing views from the property. The staff were attentive and welcoming throughout, and Mr. Basavaraj even arranged to courier back the clothes we’d accidentally left behind after checkout. We really appreciated his prompt, thoughtful help. There are quite a few steps and uneven paths, so the grounds could be easier for elderly guests to get around. The breakfast buffet could also use more variety and better planning. Even with those points, we left with lovely memories and thanks for the team’s hospitality.

The generator failed during a power outage, and repeated calls to several numbers got no response from reception or staff. We were left without electricity or support. Breakfast was another letdown: the food was decent in taste, but the selection and quality felt below even many 2-star hotels. On day two, the chef promised a better spread, but it was worse. Upma came without curry, and aloo paratha with only curd and pickle. We stayed two nights at Mountain Retreat Resort by Hill Country, Ooty, and the experience was a complete disappointment for the premium price. Management and service were extremely poor, and the whole place felt badly run and unprofessional, nowhere near 4-star standards. It may look good online, but the hospitality and guest experience were terrible. I’d never return and strongly recommend avoiding it. Don’t waste your holiday, time, or money here.

We had a great time here. The garden was beautifully kept, the rooms were clean and well looked after, and the food was delicious. The location and views were the best I’ve come across on my travels.
