Mahakal homestay

You can ask for tasty home-cooked meals here, and there’s a great view of Kanchenjunga from the balcony. The manager and his family made us feel like part of their own family. He was kind, caring, welcoming, and cooperative throughout. Our room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom had plenty of space, was clean, and had both Indian and western toilets. It’s around 2 kms from Mall Road. This is the best homestay I’ve stayed in so far, and I’d book it again for the experience.

We were looked after so well by Santosh ji throughout our stay. He even connected us with a good friend of his who took us around for local sightseeing. The balcony rooms look out over the mountains and valley, and the property is about 2 kms from Darjeeling Mall. It’s a nice option if you want to be away from the crowds. I’d suggest it for a trip with parents, family, or senior citizens.

The room has an amazing view. Just know what you're signing up for, this homestay is beside the road, so you’ll hear taxis, trucks, and the toy train all day and night. There’s also one shared bathroom for three rooms. If that sounds good to you, enjoy your stay.

The terrace view at night is amazing, and the location is close to places to explore but away from the market. The rooms were clean and good, and the WiFi stayed stable. The owner was understanding and humble, and helped us find a shared cab from Darjeeling to lepchajagat. The driver got us to all the spots on time and safely, especially Tiger Hill, where it gets crowded if you arrive late. We only had dinner once, and the food wasn’t up to the mark. The sightseeing driver was stubborn about changing the music, so we had to listen to Nepal songs the whole trip, which got irritating. The sightseeing charges were quite high.
