The road in is steep, rough, and tricky, especially if you don’t regularly drive in the hills. It’s also far from the main city and any decent nearby shop, so bring food, medicine, water, and the other essentials for your planned stay. The rooms are good, the food is tasty, and a willing caretaker actively looks after your needs. If you’re travelling as a group and are comfortable with steep bends, the place has a great view.
It’s a quiet spot, and the rooms are good, but the location and other facilities don’t meet the mark. Devdar Home Stay is 2 km down a steep road from the main mussoorie road, in a jungle area. There are no shops nearby, and room service really isn’t good.
Once you get there, the birdsong makes it feel relaxing, though the property is so isolated that the only place to walk is a limited area into the jungle. We also found some big spiders in the room, which was a bit scary. Be careful following navigation: the road to the property is dangerous, steep, and covered with loose gravel. It’s tucked away in the forest, off the street. For food, your only option is to order in-house, and it’s a little costly.
It’s a peaceful place to relax, and the rooms were good, but getting there is a task. It’s in a village, so plan accordingly. Only come if you have a private vehicle and are comfortable driving on steep roads.
I paid 700rs through Oyo, but when I got there the owner refused to check me in, saying she doesn’t accept Oyo bookings. She quoted 3200 for the room instead. I wouldn’t go searching for it in the jungle only to find the owner hadn’t updated the online price or ended the Oyo partnership, then have to turn all the way back.
