Fabhotel Neilkanth

The manager was nice, and the service boys were prompt and lovely. The hotel itself is not luxurious, though. Cleanliness gets zero points. Pipes were broken in the toilets in two rooms, and in one room water ran from the washroom into the room. The staircase to the lower-level room was very unsettling.

The location was good, but the place was poorly maintained and the rooms and bathrooms weren’t clean. Late at night, loud music with heavy bass was playing. I was totally disappointed. Not recommended for families, please don’t come here.

Our stay at this property was a uniquely awful experience, and the Fab hotels support was extremely poor. The actual conditions didn’t justify the tariff, and the website photos were misleading. The hotel staff were courteous, at least, but overall the stay was bad and I can’t recommend it. It’s a few kilometers before Dhanaulti when coming from Mussoorie. There’s no clearly visible hotel building, so look for the name board. From the main road, you take a roughly 100m stretch of kachha/pakka road. The entrance is through the restaurant and reception on the ground floor, then wooden planks on the stairs lead down to rooms spread across three floors below. The stairs were unfinished, with loose wooden planks, and the flooring didn’t seem well built. Housekeeping staff running up and down to serve guests made a loud thud each time. We booked through the fabhotel site, but the pictures and facade weren’t accurate and seemed heavily photoshopped. The facade shown online is the view from the gorge side, not the entrance. Inside, the finishes were cheap, with PVC sheet walls and ACP sheet ceilings. At booking, a Fab hotels customer service executive said we could cancel for a refund if the property differed from the images. We also requested two rooms on the same floor because a senior family member was with us and we wanted to avoid stairs. In practice, the layout made that difficult. Fabhotel told us to pay in full at check-in and said they would work out an option after we emailed photos, but later they outright refused. On top of that, loud music continued past midnight while people drank outside. We asked for it to be turned down, but got no help.

The food was great, and the caretakers were nice.
