Trendy Bed and Breakfast and Service Apartments

Sita was a real bright spot for us. She made breakfast, was warm and friendly, and was great with our child. The owner, Sachin, also seemed helpful and reasonable. We felt safe there, including as women travellers, and the location in Jangpura is excellent. The courtyard areas outside have a peaceful charm, and our room on the second floor was a comfortable size. We stayed two days in Room 1 at Trendy Bed & Breakfast in New Delhi. Getting our luggage up the narrow, circular stairs to Room 1 was extremely inconvenient. The bigger headache, though, was Gulshan, the helper. He was rarely around and seemed to lack basic hospitality training. When we asked for an extra mattress or sheet for our child, he argued instead of helping, saying, “Pehle jab poochh rahe the toh maanga kyun nahi,” even though he hadn't asked us and had only checked with other guests. The mattress we got had fungus, the quilt smelled foul, and the room toilet leaked. Hygiene was far below an acceptable standard. We raised these problems with Sita on our first breakfast morning. This points to a wider problem with many Indian B&Bs: they charge premium prices without matching basic international expectations for cleanliness, linen, or maintenance. At the same price, tourists can get cleaner rooms, better-trained staff, and more reliable hospitality in South-East Asian countries. Trendy B&B has a lot going for it in its location, atmosphere, and room size. With better staff training, especially for Gulshan, stricter hygiene, and proper maintenance, it could reach a high standard. That matters while Indian tourism is already struggling to compete globally.
