The Mazong Hotel

The restaurant staff were the one bright spot, but I’d never recommend this hotel. We were four couples staying two nights, and problems started as soon as we arrived around 5 PM on Sept 30. Our mattress was dirty, none of our rooms had the proper view we expected, and the other couples found dusty rooms with bugs. Dinner was decent, but afterwards the cook complained to the owner that we’d eaten too much, though nobody had explained portion sizes. The staff then treated us rudely, and the cook was arrogant. The reception desk was often unattended when we needed help. Because we’d booked through an agent, we had to come back for a second night, Oct 3. Our room had no geyser. When we asked to switch, they said the room was already booked, but 15 minutes later new guests checked into that same room. It felt like they simply didn’t want to help. At dinner they served chicken with a foul smell that seemed stale. We refused it, and they quickly brought dal instead, which made it seem they knew the chicken was bad. Serving it felt irresponsible and dangerous. At breakfast, the same cook refused to make omelets and spoke to us as if we were asking for charity, though we were paying guests. The rooms were dirty, the staff rude, and food safety didn’t seem to matter.

We’re staying here for two nights. The rooms are very clean and well maintained, and the staff are warm and hospitable. I’d also like to mention Sharukh and Gobinda.

Gangtok felt great during our stay, and the hotel was peaceful. The owner and staff were really friendly, and the cook made very good food. We enjoyed ourselves.

The staff were so friendly, and our room was very clean. It’s a little way from mall road, but a taxi costs 100rs per person. We asked about a bonfire, and they arranged one as well as they could.
