OYO 9979 Goahati Guest House

We told them ahead of time we'd arrive after 2am because our train was late, but didn't give an exact time since Indian train schedules can't be predicted. It was delayed even more, and we reached the building at 5am. The OYO representative on the phone said the hotel had tried calling near 2am, couldn't reach us, and automatically cancelled the booking without charging us or sending an email. Cellular reception on the train is unstable, so it's unclear how we could have answered. At 5am, before giving us a room, the representative also asked if we were a married or unmarried couple to check the hotel's policies. Eventually they agreed to provide a room, but wanted 1800 rupees instead of the 1600 we had booked. That was 1800 rupees for five hours, since check-in was at 11am. After half an hour of broken phone conversations, with our battery running down and mosquitoes eating us in the dark, we refused to pay extra. A few hours later we found a good hotel for 1600 rupees. That's how OYO treats new customers. I don't think I'll book with OYO again. The last thing I want is a template reply from management saying they regret the inconvenience. If they want to raise hospitality to industry standards, they need to take much more serious action than offering empty words. Any booking restrictions should be communicated clearly, with a copy sent to the customer's email.

There's no banner, but the room quality is good for this price range, and the hospitality was good too. I'd give it five stars.

The rooms were a lot better than you'd expect from the building's exterior. The OYO captain was awesome, and the service was just as good.

It's a residential area turned into a guest house, and there's no signboard with its name. The bathrooms also weren't as clean as expected. Not a good place to stay.
