The President Hotel

The rest of the experience was good, and the food and service were good too. But there’s plenty that could be improved, especially how the staff coordinate. They promised a particular seating arrangement and didn’t provide it, and the warm water we asked for never arrived, even by the end.

The breakfast buffet is a very good spread, and costs 320 per person if it isn’t included in the room rate. The rooms are good value, spacious, clean, and well maintained, with hot water, fluffy towels, nice linens, and the amenities you need. Lunch and dinner at the terrace restaurants, Jungle and Gufha, are on the pricey side, with most items at least 350rs. each. Jungle has lovely lake views, an interesting atmosphere, and good service.

The hotel is in a prime spot opposite Unkal Lake, a picnic place in the city. The bus stand is across the road and close enough to walk to, and there’s an auto stand right outside. Parking is plentiful: there’s quick parking by the compound, plus a dedicated open area for longer stays that has a security guard. The staff were friendly and cheerful, and the service was very good. Rooms are spacious and good, though a bit old and could use improvement. There are three restaurants in the hotel: one serving Andhra cuisine, a vegetarian forest themed place where breakfast is served, and Gufaa, a bar with nonveg. The hotel is missing amenities such as a pool and spa. I recommend it.

The room is spacious, but the Wi-Fi is so slow and unreliable that it’s unusable for work. I told the hotel before booking that I needed a strong connection for office work. After I complained, staff suggested changing login IDs over and over, which didn’t help. I checked in today at The President Hotel, Hubli, and have been very disappointed. A delivery with a pair of inner garments arrived for me, but a staff member named Nikhil wouldn’t let it be delivered to my room or handed over at reception. He said the parcel “could contain illegal items.” That was shocking and unreasonable. His dismissive, rude behavior showed no basic hospitality etiquette and is unacceptable in a hotel. It’s been a frustrating stay. I hope management takes this seriously and improves both service and staff training.
