Aryan Desert Camp

We couldn’t tolerate the camp and ended up spending the night at Hotel Antra in CVS Colony Jaisalmer. The whole Sam Sand Dunes setup felt like a waste of time and money. Camps seem to use the same village name, Sam Sand Dunes, so if you book a camp called “X” through a travel site, you may be taken to “Y” and not know where you’re staying until you’re handed a tent. The camps were full of men traveling without women, and there were no family-only camps. Operators smoked constantly, and noise carried through the tents all night. The tents were basic and the washrooms stank. If you’re hoping for a peaceful family stay, this was the opposite. To me, the whole Sam Dune Camping business feels like a small-scale tourism scam. The dunes at Sam are less than 1 km across, and the pictures seem fabricated, perhaps taken in the Middle East or Sahara. Thar desert dunes cover a limited area with lots of plants, so don’t expect a huge stretch of bare sand. White Desert @ Kutch at least delivers what it advertises.
