The Stepwell Hotel

Our room was clean and really comfortable, with a lovely view of the stepwell. The rooftop terrace was another great spot, with tasty food options, and the service was wonderful. The Stepwell is in a perfect location. It’s managed by the same people as Raas across the street, so you get those benefits without the steep price. On my last visit to Jodhpur I stayed at the Taj, which was very nice, but The Stepwell has much more charm and a better location. My guess is that the negative reviews are from before the refurbishment.

The castle and stepwell views were impressive, and the rooms have historic character. The staff were lovely. Sleep was the one problem for me, with noise from both the street and the staircase. I wish the city’s hotel owners would push the council to address unnecessary honking, dogs barking at night, temple and minaret noise, and loud wedding music and fireworks.

The rooftop restaurant is worth trying: beautiful views and delicious food. My room was spotless, and the service was amazing. This was the best hotel I stayed in Rajasthan.

It’s a small hotel, but the hospitality is huge. Every staff member went out of their way to help us feel at ease, and the food was outstanding. When our room’s air conditioning had a problem, they made sincere efforts to fix it, but there wasn’t enough time to resolve it. They offered us a special packed meal to make up for the discomfort. The Stepwell has great architecture and character, and it’s right in the city center, with interesting little shops and cafés nearby. The narrow stairs can be difficult for older guests, though there’s a tiny elevator installed for them. I’d gladly recommend it if you’re after an offbeat place in lovely Jodhpur.
