Amritara The Poovath Beachfront Heritage, Fort Kochi

We paid a premium and got no comfort, privacy, safety, hospitality, or value for money. The room offered so little privacy that we didn’t feel comfortable or safe changing clothes there. Staff refused to help with our luggage and treated us as if guests were an inconvenience. The food was a major disappointment: poor quality and taste, limited options, and nothing like what we expected for the price. There wasn’t even a proper buffet, and the food service felt badly managed and like an afterthought. This was one of my worst hotel stays. I’d advise people to avoid it and spare themselves the frustration.

We had a lovely time at Amritara. It’s in a very quiet area, an easy 10 min walk from the Fort Kochi water metro, and within easy walking distance of souvenir shops, great restaurants, and the beach walk area. The rooms were spacious and nice, and the amenities were comparable to American standards, which was convenient for us. Staff were friendly and accommodating.

We stayed here in February 2026. The bathroom tap water was brown and smelly. After many hours, staff told us it was contaminated, but gave no explanation of what was in it. There were mosquitoes in the room, and staff didn’t seem to know what they were serving or understand us. They lost my laundry and offered no compensation. The regional and manager of hotel management said they would refund one night and compensate me for the laundry, but nothing came through. DONOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

The rooms were spacious and tidy, and breakfast was included with good service. The location is excellent. Light sleepers should know that sound carries: late in the evening, we heard creaking from the stairs and ceiling as people moved around.
