Bolgatty Palace & Island Resort (KTDC)

The stay feels premium and is very affordable, since the Kerala Government Tourism Department maintains the resort. It's a great value in a prime location, suitable for a visit with friends or family. The old palace has been turned into a beautiful resort on a premium island surrounded by water. The marine and nearby harbour views are stunning, and Hyatt Hotel is close by, adding to the area's premium feel.

A quiet, scenic stay in Ernakulam, with spacious palace grounds and lovely views of the marina and passing ships. This KTDC heritage property has a strong sense of history and offers good food and hospitality. A lovely facility.

Parking is convenient, which is especially useful for large gatherings and receptions, and the seafront location is easy to get to. The evening view and sound of waves give functions here a memorable atmosphere. There's real history in the building, and walking its corridors still gives a sense of its past. I feel a little conflicted that a heritage place is now mostly used for parties and wedding receptions, though it's well maintained and actively used, keeping it from being abandoned. It works very well as an event venue, and I hope its story continues to be preserved and remembered.

The outdoor setting and location are beautiful, but the downsides outweigh those positives. The rooms and room service disappointed me: my room wasn't dusted properly, the towels felt old, and the fan was dirty. I stayed in a marina cottage where the windows hadn't been cleaned well either. The staff were friendly and polite, but didn't seem very familiar with hospitality standards or service expectations. With better upkeep and more professional staff, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation could make this a luxurious destination. I wouldn't recommend staying overnight unless maintenance and service improve significantly.
